Scottish Target Shooting is inviting clubs to express interest in spearheading a Regional Shooting Club Development Officer to support growth, youth engagement, coach development, welfare, and local publicity.

Scottish Target Shooting (STS) is exploring an exciting new initiative designed to strengthen, modernise, and future‑proof shooting clubs across Scotland. As part of our commitment to supporting sustainable growth and enhancing opportunities for participation, we are inviting clubs to express interest in hosting a Regional Shooting Club Development Officer.

This role would work directly with clubs in a defined region, providing hands‑on support to help them grow, innovate, and thrive. Many clubs are ambitious—keen to expand their membership, engage more young people, develop coaches, and raise their profile locally. This initiative is designed to help make those ambitions a reality.

What Would a Regional Club Development Officer Do?

  Grow Membership & Participation Support clubs to attract new members, retain existing ones, and create welcoming pathways for beginners.

  Engage Young People Build relationships with schools, youth groups, and community organisations to introduce young people to target shooting in a safe, structured, and inspiring way.

  Develop Coaches & Volunteers Help clubs strengthen their coaching workforce through training, mentoring, and development opportunities.

  Facilitate Regional Squads & Pathways Support the creation and coordination of regional squads, ensuring talented athletes have clear progression routes.

  Enhance Welfare & Safeguarding Standards Work with clubs to maintain robust welfare practices and ensure safe, inclusive environments for all participants.

  Increase Local Publicity & Visibility Promote club activities, achievements, and opportunities through local media, partnerships, and community engagement.

Across Scotland, shooting clubs are doing exceptional work. Many, however, face familiar challenges: limited volunteer capacity, ageing membership profiles, and the need to reach new communities.

A regional development officer can provide the dedicated time, expertise, and energy to help clubs overcome these barriers and build for the future.
