British Shooting Launches New Foundation Programme for Air Rifle

British Shooting has launched ‘Start Your Precision Rifle Journey’, a new foundation programme designed to support young people as they take their first steps into Olympic and Paralympic precision air rifle shooting.

The programme is aimed at young people who are either completely new to precision shooting or transitioning from sporter disciplines, offering a structured and supportive introduction to the sport. The focus is on learning, confidence and progression, with the aim of helping every participant complete their first full 60-shot match.

Start Your Precision Rifle Journey is a six-month development programme delivered in a safe, athlete-centred environment. It has been created to help young athletes build strong technical foundations, positive training habits and confidence on the range, without the pressure of trials or selection.

The programme is open to participants in Olympic disciplines aged 12-21 and Paralympic disciplines aged 14-25, and is inclusive of all abilities. No previous precision shooting experience is required.

The programme begins with a two-day Fundamentals Camp at NSRA Aldersley on 30–31 March 2026, for the selected athletes in the programme, where participants will be introduced to precision air rifle fundamentals and receive hands-on coaching from experienced practitioners.

Following the camp, participants move into a supported progression phase lasting up to six months, from April to September 2026. Each athlete is allocated a coach, local where possible, and supported through a personalised training plan. Support includes in-person and/or remote coaching, structured progression activities and a series of online group webinars.

The programme culminates with each participant completing a full 60-shot match - a significant milestone for those new to precision shooting and a key step in understanding the demands and structure of the discipline.

The programme fee is £500, which includes the two-day Fundamentals Camp, up to 36 hours of coaching and support, a personalised training plan and structured progression towards completing a first 60-shot match.

Applications for Start Your Precision Rifle Journey are now open and close on 9 February 2026.
