This meeting was held on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th June 2017, with strong, rapidly changing winds blowing for most of the time and – unusually for Wick – very high temperatures and humidity on the Sunday. The meeting was held in combination with the STS Grand Prix 3. Around 30 competitors in four classes competed in the various competitions on offer, with entrants coming from far and wide.
Team Scotland has revealed an exciting five-day programme of events and celebrations which will be held around the country, to mark the visit of the Gold Coast 2018 Queen’s Baton Relay (QBR) on its global tour, ahead of next year’s Commonwealth Games in Australia. Competitors from throughout the United Kingdom travelled to the Range in the grounds of Thirlstane Castle, Lauder, to contest a wide range of individual and team competitions over 50m and 100 yards from 1st to 7th July 2017. As usual, the weather conditions contributed to making the competition both interesting and frustrating but the Scots acquitted themselves well throughout the range of competitions...view this article to see how they got on
British Shooting are running an ISSF Academy D Course for Rifle and Pistol Coaches in Henley on 18-20 August 2017. The course lecturers will be Donald McIntosh (Rifle) and Paul Taylor (Pistol). The deadline for applications is Friday 14 July. The course fee will be £160 per person. If you are interested in attending the course, please send your application form to dean.leak@britishshooting.org.uk to register your interest.
With recent media attention on safeguarding in sport sportscotland, Disclosure Scotland, Volunteer Scotland and Children 1st are conducting a survey to identify the knowledge and awareness of safeguarding in sport. Scottish Target Shooting fully supports this pieces of work as it will positively influence safeguarding training and support for those working with children and ultimately help to protect children in our sport.
Last week saw STS athlete Jess Liddon travel to Novi Sad in Serbia for a Grand Prix event celebrating over 220 years of the Novi Sad 1790 - the oldest sport organisation in Serbia. Jess's first match was 10m Air on Sius Ascor e-targets. She scored a credible 372 which put her into the final. Jess was up against stiff competition from Bulgarian athlete Antoaneta Boneva, a double Olympian!
One member of the STS Pistol squad was in action for The Great Britain Shooting Team at the Intarso Reflex Shooting Cup in Belgium on the first weekend in June. Alan Goodall had a mixed performance, showing great form at various times, but poor consistency wrecked any real chance of being in contention.
Two members of the Pistol squad made it down to Jersey for the Channel Islands Open over the last weekend in May. Beautiful weather and environment made for an exceptionally enjoyable event, and Jersey’s more liberal firearms laws and the friendly welcome from Jersey Pistol Club make this a venue well worth exploring for anyone wanting to try out live fire pistol shooting without the Section 5 limitations of the mainland.
A great weekend of shooting as both the 50m 3P and Prone Rifle Grand Prixes resulted in new records being achieved over the 27 and 28 May. The weekend started at the Denwood range where there was a good entry for the 3P event, 7 men and 6 women, with this being Tom Diggle's first 3P competition. There were several personal bests in the qualification phase including a 588 x 600 for Seonaid McIntosh.
Members from the Scottish Target Shooting Pistol Squad continued their attendance at some of the top European events, competing in Pilsen and then travelling on to Hannover. The squad continued to fly the flag strongly for Scotland with some excellent shooting, including new PBs as well as Gold Coast and Senior GB squad qualifying scores by a few athletes.
