Scottish Universities Fullbore Team Retain National Match title at the 157th Imperial
PerformanceOn Thursday 23rd July at Bisley, Scottish Universities retained the Universities National Match title, defeating English Universities by 15 points with a score of 797.69v to 782.72v. The result secured Scotland’s second consecutive victory in the fixture, following last year’s narrow six-point win.
Match overview
The match was contested in warm, dry conditions, but with fickle wind that proved difficult to read. Scotland established an 11-point lead at 300 yards. England kept the contest close at 500 yards, but Scotland gained another point before extending the final margin at 600 yards.
Special mention goes to George Wood, who finished as Scotland’s top shot with 101.10v, including an excellent 35.6v at 300 yards.
Our thanks go to coaches James Mehta and Mark Wrigley, as well as opposing captain George Bramwell and the English Universities team for another competitive match. The result marks another strong step forward for Scottish university shooting and gives the team plenty to build on next year under their new captain.
Edinburgh University at the Imperial Meeting
The Universities National Match also rounded off an exceptionally successful Imperial Meeting for Edinburgh University Rifle Club, which won both the Universities Long Range and the overall BUCS Fullbore competition. Special mention also goes to Dorothy Harrison, who secured second place in the BUCS Women’s Individual.
These results are particularly significant given that this was only Edinburgh’s third year since returning to fullbore shooting, demonstrating how quickly the club has developed into Great Britain’s leading university rifle club.
