Our Members on the NHS Front Line (May Update)
On 1st April STS launched a campaign to highlight our members supporting the NHS Front Line. In return for individuals getting in touch to let us know about their shooting and what they are doing on the front line, we are rewarding these key workers with free Enhanced STS Membership in 2021.
Shooting is full of amazing people and this project is designed to help raise the profile of those working in the NHS but we appreciate there will be many more out there on the front line doing amazing work in essential services to keep the country going - we thank each and every one of you for all that you do.
Below is our May 2020 update of our amazing members working in the NHS - as a small thank you, each of these will get free Enhanced Membership for 2020 for letting us share their story:
Katie Knowles
Club: Scottish Saltires Modern Pentathlon
What do you shoot: 10m air pistol
Tell us a bit about you and your shooting involvement: Over the past 10 years, I've been through the STS development pathway all the way to the performance pathway. I first got involved in the sport through modern pentathlon, where I found I really enjoyed the target shooting element. I have been on many successful trips with both Scottish Shooting and British Shooting and hope to get back to training and competing as soon as it is safe to do so.
Tell us a bit about your role and what you have been doing for the NHS during the coronavirus outbreak: I recently qualified as a physiotherapist and I am currently working on one of the COVID-19 wards in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. The role we play depends on the severity of the patient's illness. It can be in the form of chest physio which is used to maintain a patent’s airway and vital signs, or to provide intensive rehab to facilitate the patient taking their first steps after what may have been a long period of hospitalisation. We ensure patient-centred care by offering a 7-day service and by being on-call through the night.
Kerstin Dodd
Club: Callander Rifle Club
What do you shoot: 10m air pistol and 25m pistol
Tell us a bit about you and your shooting involvement: I shoot at Callander Rifle Club weekly and compete in air pistol in 10m and 25m. I got involved in shooting through doing triathlon and tetrathlon.
Tell us a bit about your role and what you have been doing for the NHS during the coronavirus outbreak: I am a student nurse and an auxiliary for the NHS and have worked for NHS Forth Valley and NHS Dumfries & Galloway during the current outbreak. I have been posted to the main Covid-19 wards in both areas to work alongside other frontline staff.
Thank you Katie and Kerstin - you are doing us all proud and doing a great job!
