STS 50m Pistol Championship 2026

21 June 2026 – Denwood Target Shooting Centre, Aberdeen

The STS 50m Pistol Championship took place on 21 June 2026 at the Denwood 50m Range in Aberdeen, on what was not only the longest day of the year but also one of the hottest and sunniest days seen in 2026. Despite a modest entry of five competitors, the quality of the field more than compensated for the small numbers, with past champions and some of Britain's top pistol athletes competing for the title.

The qualification match produced an exceptionally high standard of shooting throughout.

David Owen opened strongly with a score of 513-4x, but this was only enough to secure third place in qualification. Alan Goodall edged ahead into second with 518-7x, while the outstanding performance of the day came from Andrew Walker, who topped the qualification rankings with an impressive 531-3x.

Also competing were Mike Osbourne, who made the long journey north from Blackpool and posted an excellent 497-9x, and Ian Nuckley, who completed the qualification stage with 489-2x.

With all five athletes progressing to the final, the competition remained wide open. However, Andrew Walker maintained the superb form he had shown throughout qualification, producing a composed and consistent final performance to claim the gold medal – along with the coveted bottle of fruity vodka – with a winning score of 221.2.

David Owen steadily clawed back ground during the final, moving through the field to secure the silver medal with a score of 213.4. Alan Goodall looked well placed for a higher finish early on, but a series of late dropped shots saw him settle for the bronze medal with 197.4.

The facilities at Denwood were, as always, excellent, and combined with the exceptional weather to provide a fantastic setting for the championship. It was an enjoyable day of competition and a showcase for the high standard of pistol shooting currently on display within the sport.

A special thank you goes to all competitors, particularly Mike & Ian for making the considerable journey from Blackpool to take part. And to Bruce McIntosh for the steady running of the championships.

While the entry numbers were lower than hoped, the quality of the shooting was first-class, and we look forward to seeing participation continue to grow at future STS events.
