3P Grand Prix 3

What’s better than one 3‑Position competition? …..Two in a single day!

Due to an already packed rifle calendar, Scottish Target Shooting (STS) combined the 3P GP3 and the Scottish Championships into a single, demanding day of competition at Denwood Target Shooting Centre in Aberdeen.

With stunning summer weather in Aberdeen and temperatures climbing into the 20s, athletes were set for a long and gruelling test of endurance, focus, and consistency, tackling back‑to‑back 3P qualification rounds and finals.

Focusing on the GP3 element of the event, seven athletes took to the firing line, many looking to build valuable points in the Grand Prix series standings as the season progresses.

Qualification Round Highlights

The standout performance of the day came from one of Scotland’s brightest young talents, Kirsty Scott, who delivered the highest score seen so far in this year’s series. Her impressive 575 (23x) set a new benchmark and secured her the top spot in the women’s qualification.

Behind her, Sheena Sharp and Lily Driscoll were locked in a close contest, both posting identical scores of 543. The tie was ultimately decided on inner tens, where Sheena edged ahead with 15x, just surpassing Lily’s 13x to claim second place.

In the men’s event, another rising star, Neil Sinclair, produced a composed and high‑quality performance to take the top qualifying position with 563 (11x). Neil will be particularly pleased to have finished ahead of his father, Martin Sinclair, who secured second place with a score of 542.

Rounding out the field, Joshua Mitchell posted a score of 496, narrowly holding off David Thompson, who followed closely with 495, highlighting the tight margins throughout the competition.

Finals

With all seven entrants progressing through to the final, the stage was set for a competitive and closely fought elimination round.

Neil Sinclair demonstrated excellent composure under pressure, holding his nerve throughout the elimination stages to secure first place with a score of 340.9. It marks another strong performance from the young athlete, capping off an impressive day.

Close behind was Kirsty Scott, who continued her outstanding form from qualification to take second place with 337.6, reinforcing her status as one of Scotland’s leading young shooters.

The battle for third was tightly contested between Lily Driscoll and Sheena Sharp, with Lily maintaining her advantage to claim third place, just ahead of Sheena in fourth.

 Acknowledgements

A big thank you goes to all competitors whose enthusiasm and commitment supported not only the GP3 competition, but also the Scottish 3P Championships, making for a highly successful, and very busy, day of shooting.

Special thanks, as always, to Bruce McIntosh for expertly running the range throughout the day, along with support from Neil, whose innovative approach to scheduling ensured that the timings of all rounds were achieved smoothly.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back – along with new faces – in six weeks’ time for GP4 on 29 August.

We would love everyone to continue spreading the word to encourage participation and help build the 3P events to make future competitions even stronger.
