Kirsty Scott receiving a Gold medal from James Peterson (Smallbore AMG Chair) for winning the Under 21 competition

Tony Baledent receiving a Gold medal from James Peterson (Smallbore AMG Chair) for winning the Under 18 Competition

The day went smoothly, with a few minor administrative hitches that were soon resolved.

The weather, for Denwood, was kind (not too chilly, even warm at times) but the wind was very gusty and variable in direction - a strong challenge for the competitors.

With everyone shooting at times and distances of their own choosing, it was difficult to work out who was in contention for many of the competitions until the very last shot had been fired. The best indoor scores of the day came from juniors: Kirsty Scott (U21) 395, and Tony Lin Baledent (U18) with 394!

The 26 shooters who took part represented a wide range of experience levels - from "senior" competitors with many years of experience, to one of the juniors who was experiencing her very first outdoor competition!

We had a lot of help from volunteers on the day. In particular, thanks go to Mark Flett who, in at the deep end, provided invaluable assistance in entering competitor data and scores, then producing the results for the day - but also to Jim Cole-Hamilton, Jon Latimer and Janis Thomson for scoring the targets. Jon also ran the 25yd indoor range for the day.

Thanks also to various people who acted as range officers on the outdoor range when asked: Jim Cole-Hamilton, Ronnie Sellar, James Paterson and Ian Thomson all took a turn here!

After a long day shooting at three different distances - indoors and outdoors - we had lots of positive feedback from participants again this year.

It would be good to build on this to bring the number of participants back to the heights of 2024!

An unexpected bonus was the provision of hot pies at lunchtime - thank you Jon for sorting that for us!
