2025 North Island, New Zealand Match

2025 North Island, New Zealand Match

The Scottish teams shot their part of the annual North Island New Zealand Match at Balerno & Currie on Saturday 22nd March. As per normal procedures, our scores will not be published until after the North Island team have shot their targets at the end of their winter season in about six months.

In the Junior team, Frankie Calder and Tony Lin Baledent were the equal top scorers, the award for the highest scoring team member going to Frankie on countback (albeit the trophy is still missing!).

In the Senior team, there was a three-way tie for the top score between Lenny Thomson, Jonty Barron and Adam Dove, which could not be split on countback. Using the inner-ten ‘X’ count as a second tie-break saw the Waka Huia awarded to Lenny for 2025.

In the evening, a celebration to mark the 50th match in our series of competitions with the North Island was held in Edinburgh, with 42 previous team members covering every decade of the competition attending.  A number of those attending are no longer directly involved with the sport, so it was a wonderful evening and a chance to catch up with old friends.  Cyril De Jonckheere, who first competed in the match in 1979, kindly presented the badges and date bars to the 2025 team members who were able to attend.
