Scout Leader Training Course - A First for Scottish Target Shooting

Over the Easter weekend on 16 and 17 April, 11 Scout leaders attended a Youth Proficiency Scheme (YPS) course at the Jock Neish Scouting Centre near Forfar. Candidates travelled from Galashiels to Elgin to take part.

Dan Barry led a small group to build an outdoor Air Rifle range in the walled garden on site with great results. The range was perfect for the course. Well done Everyone!

Dan had also scrounged a few ” break barrel “ Air Rifles which will be a good start for Scout shooting. They could really do with some Sporter Air Rifles which cost ~£900 each so if anyone feels like making a donation it would be very welcome.

The course was very interactive with lots of discussion about promoting Air Rifle shooting within Scottish Scouts. It is inspiring to see such enthusiasm about the sport.

A further 7 Scout leaders have already expressed an interest in attending a YPS course so that will be arranged in the near future.
