Scottish Target Shooting (STS) is delighted to confirm the details for the inaugural 2026 Scottish Benchrest Open. Thanks to our members at Alloa Outdoor Range, we are able to offer a competition that supports both air rifle and .22 benchrest formats simultaneously across the weekend.
This is an exciting expansion from the postal programme, introducing a shoulder-to-shoulder competition in this growing event.
If well supported, STS hopes to do more in 2027!
Location & Date
The competition will be held at Alloa and District Rifle Club's Outdoor Range, located at Tulligarth Farm, Clackmannan, FK10 4DH (What3Words lightbulb.birds.grudge) on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September 2026.
Format
The open will take place over two days:
Saturday - Practice
The Saturday is a chance for people to come along and train. A fixed fee of £10 (25% discount for STS members) has been set and practice will be arranged informally on the day.
Sunday - Competition
Sunday will be the day of competition with relays running every 30 mins starting at 10.00 and the final relay starting at 16.00. Each relay will consist of 12 firing points where 6 have been set up for those shooting .22 and 6 set up for air rifle. When booking below, please select the correct category. For those shooting air rifle, you will be asked if you are shooting under NSRA or World Benchrest rules.

Equipment
STS has been able to source 12 benches so these will be provided on the day but athletes are asked to supply their own seats/stools. Athletes may also bring their own benches if they wish.

Venue Accessibility
While the range should not have any accessibility issues, the car park may present challenges for those with accessibility or mobility issues.
Eligibility to Enter
Part of the appeal of benchrest is its inclusivity, as such, this event is open to competitors with a disability. However, if there is any concern about the suitability of the competition, please contact events@scottishtargetshooting.co.uk or call 0131 376 2224 and leave a message if no reply.
Novices
Novices are welcome at these events. This is a chance to enjoy the experience of competitive shooting, chat to like-minded shooters, and, most of all, have some fun. Please note: You need to have your own shooting kit to take part. There may the opportunity to share kit with others present but this is not guaranteed. Prizes
The nature and category of prizes will be determined on the day depending on the number and categories of athletes present.
Catering
STS are delighted to confirm that Alloa & District Rifle Club will be providing catering throughout the day on both Saturday and Sunday. Catering will be provided through payment of cash on the day and all proceeds will go directly to Alloa & District Rifle Club. You will be asked as part of your entry form if you have any food allergies we need to inform the club about.
Closing Dates and Wait List
On the Sunday a total of 26 entries can be taken for the .22 event and 26 for the air rifle. Entries will be available on a first come basis. Entries will close 8 days prior to the competition at 23:59 on Friday 4 September 2026. If an event is full, please select the waiting list. You will be contacted only if a place becomes available.
Changes and Withdrawals
If you need to change your booking or withdraw from the event then please contact the STS Office by emailing events@scottishtargetshooting.co.uk or telephone 0131 376 2224 and leave a message if no reply.
Refunds
Cancellations made after the closing date of the event will not be entitled to a refund except in exceptional circumstances and at the discretion of the STS Office.

STS Membership is not restricted to shooters living in Scotland.
The STS member discount for events and competitions is available to all membership categories. Essential membership is only £15 (Adults) and £7.50 (Juniors, Full Time Students and Individuals with a Disability) and is valid for 2026. Visiting Scotland with an Air Rifle
Following a change in the law on 31 December 2016, it is now necessary to have an air weapon certificate to possess, use or purchase an air weapon in Scotland. Anyone visiting Scotland intending to use an air rifle but not holding a valid certificate will need to apply for and obtain a visitor’s permit or a full air weapon certificate. Visitor Permits are issued by Police Scotland.
Visitors to Scotland bringing their own air rifle are responsible for ensuring they have the necessary permit and/or certificate to participate at STS events held in Scotland.
