Scottish Government Announce Changes to Section 5 Licensing Procedures

STS would like to pass on to the target shooting community news from the Scottish Government regarding changes to their Section 5 licencing procedures:

New application form

The Scottish Government are introducing a new application form for all future Section 5 enquiries, which can be accessed at www.gov.scot/publications/section-5-authority.  All new/renewal applications and variation requests must now be made using this form. The form should provide greater clarity for applicants on which information they should provide to the Scottish Government, and what the requirements are to be granted a Section 5 certificate.

As of 1 May 2019, applications not made using the form will not be taken forward. If you have an ongoing renewal or variation request which you submitted before 1 May then this will be processed as normal.

Completed applications should be submitted to the Scottish Government for processing by emailing firearms.enquiries@gov.scot, or by post to the address provided on the form.

If you have any difficulties or queries about using the form please contact the Scottish Government at firearms.enquiries@gov.scot and they have said they will be happy to help.

A copy of the application form can also be accessed from the link here.

Firearms Enquiries Mailbox

As of 1 May, the Scottish Government’s general firearms mailbox will become their primary point of contact. All future firearms/Section 5 enquiries should be sent to the Scottish Government via this mailbox after this date, as opposed to being sent to individual members of the firearms team. This will allow the Scottish Government to monitor and answer enquiries more effectively.

The Scottish Government’s firearms mailbox address is: Firearms.Enquiries@gov.scot

Section 5 Variations

All authority holders are reminded that it is essential that you inform the Scottish Government of any variations to your authority when they happen, rather than waiting until your authority is due for renewal.  Failure to keep the details on your authority up to date may result in your authorisation being made invalid. Any variation requests received at the point of renewal will not be granted until a separate variation request is made using the form discussed above.
