There is no single route through shooting. Everyone’s journey is different, shaped by where they begin, what they enjoy and what they want to achieve.

The Shooting Pathway illustrates the different ways people can enter, develop and progress within the sport - from a first experience at school, university, a local club or community session, through regular participation and competition, to national performance programmes and the Olympic or Paralympic Games.

It also recognises that progression is not always linear. People may move between stages, follow more than one route, or choose to stay involved through recreational shooting, coaching, volunteering or officiating.

Not sure where to begin?

Most people take their first step through a local club, community session, school, university, cadet organisation, Scout group, commercial shooting ground or come-and-try event.

You don’t need to know where you want the journey to lead before you begin. Start with the opportunity that is most accessible or appealing to you - the pathway can develop from there.
