Kevin Gray Breaks the Scottish 50m Pistol Record in style!
Kevin won the West of Scotland 50m Free Pistol Championships today breaking Dave Lewis’ previous Scottish record of 541, scoring 547; that ranks Kevin 3rd in the UK. Ian Jack finished in second place with a score of 515 and Mick Brown in third with 477.
Interviewing Kevin after his success today, asking how he felt, he described the feeling as ‘the warm fuzzies’!
Kevin first started shooting with a rifle at age 9 when his father who was in the TA took him to the local rifle range. At age 11 he gave it up in favour of football and other interests. He took up shooting pistol in 1995. His first competitive shoot was in Gibraltar at the Island Games in 1995 where he won a bronze medal in 10m air pistol. From then on he has been hooked!
Kevin has had many highlights since 1995, winning the Scottish Confined Championship three times, the Scottish Open in 2004, team gold at the CSF(ED) Championships in Jersey, a Bronze at the CSF(ED) Championships in Isle of Man. He has also won Gold, Silver and Bronze at six Island Games. One of Kevin’s greatest highlights was representing Scotland at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester 2002.
Kevin believes his recent success is due to a new intense training programme and the help, support, mentoring and quality advice of the Scottish Pistol Associations Head Pistol Coach Mick Gault OBE.
His current form suggests we will definitely be seeing him at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow 2014.
Good Luck Kevin!
